How can you eat healthy when dining out? Unfortunately it can be hard!

Even if you order the healthiest sounding dish, like fish with veggies, most restaurants still use butter and cheap oils to make almost everything on the menu. Chefs don't usually cook with Olive Oil because it's expensive, whereas butter and Vegetable oils (Canola, Sunflower, Safflower, Soybean) are cheaper, but have saturated fat and cause inflammation in the body. Fried foods obviously require oil but when veggies are sautéed in canola oil, or a cheap oil is in the salad dressing, it takes a meal from healthy to unhealthy quickly. So what can you do?

Do your best!

1.) Try to incorporate Anti-Inflammatory foods like Fish, Veggies & Whole Grains that are not soaked in Oil or Butter when you can. These will counterbalance any inflammation.

2.) Look for cooking terms like Grilled, Broiled, Poached & Steamed as opposed to Battered, Glazed, Pan-fried, Roasted or Sautéed.

3.) Ask for Olive Oil & Balsamic or some Lemon to dress your salad yourself.

4.)You can also make sure they don't cook with butter by saying you have a dairy allergy.

5.) But overall, try to limit eating out! Try to cook more at home so when you do dine out, you can fully enjoy your meal and don't have to stress. 👩🏼‍🍳This is my personal strategy and it's what works best for me!
